169 Charlton Avenue is a 2 1/2 story, 3 bay, rectangular plan, French Second Empire, wood frame, residential building. Built c. 1870, the house is dominated by a concave mansard roof with patterned slate shingles, bracketed eaves and an open, wrap-around porch. Other features include a transomed double entrance door, and paired windows with full size wooden shutters. This house is one of the oldest in Montrose. At the turn-of-the-century, the house was owned by Phebe L. Gates. In the 1920s, it was owned by William F. Siemon.
